Week One

This is a summary of statistics I get off of an Iphone app called "QuitIt" for each day of my quit.

One of the scariest parts of quitting smoking is not knowing what to expect.  For the detailed post, click on the link to read about how I did for the day, what challenges I faced and anything else I felt was important on that day.

Pregame:  I did a few things to prepare for my quit date.

Day 1: Quit Date: Wednesday, January 18, 2012 8:30 a.m. No other statistics available yet.
  • The first day can often be the easiest because we are motivated to get the monkey off our backs.
Day 2: 1 Day; 11 hours; 57 minutes.  Beat 22 cigarettes.  I have saved $7.50.  My risk of sudden heart attack decreases.
  • Let the games begin!  The cravings started rolling in today.
Day 3: 2 days; 12 hours; 26 minutes.  Beat 38 cigarettes.  I have saved $9.44.  My sense of smell and taste are returning because my nerve endings begin to regenerate.
  • I agree.  Things taste and smell differently.
Day 4: 3 days; 9 hours; 49 minutes. Beat 51 cigarettes.  I have saved $12.78.  My nerve endings are continuing to regenerate and my senses of smell and taste are returning.
  • My sinuses are clogged so I really can't tell.  Coffee and food are tasting different - flavors are more intense and layered.
Day 5: 4 days; 13 hours; 37 minutes.  Beat 69 cigarettes. I have saved $17.13.  My nerve endings still healing.
  • I am still feeling the same physically.  I am getting really vivid dreams that are pleasant - no nightmares.  Sleeping pretty hard - not waking in the middle of the night or anything.
Day 6: 5 days; 13 hours; 3 minutes.  Beat 83 cigarettes.  I have saved $20.79.  It is still about my nerve endings repairing themselves.
  • I drank a lot of coffee today because I felt droopy.
Day 7: 6 days; 10 hours; 47 minutes. Beat 97 cigarettes.  I have saved $24.19.
  • Cravings can be tricky and really mess with your head.
